Highlighter boom or is it everything really about glow

I guess not only me but you guys as well have noticed that in recent two years we have got a big trend of highlighting our faces. Almost all makeup companies come out with new highlighting products, such as powders, liquids, creams, drops etc. Everyone wants to have highlighted cheekbones and noses. Highlighters are getting as much popular as bronzers now. But can a highlighter really suit everyone and everywhere? I mean, how many of us have acne prone skin and scars, it is only on photo shopped pictures everyone has a perfect skin and glow. Highlighter cannot be put all over the cheeks if you have acne scars. Some people who have very problematic skin should avoid using them. I do not say that highlighter is a bad idea; I use it every time I do my makeup even though I do not have a perfect skin. However there are always limits in everything especially when it comes to makeup. Do not trust those people who tell you to use highlighting product all over the face, you will simply look like an alien. These looks are only suggested for photo shoots or creative makeup, for sure not for every day.

And now let’s talk about my favorite highlighter or simply to say about those that I own. I do not have a whole bunch of highlighters and I do not think it is necessary for personal use, because you will never use a whole pack to the end, and makeup has a tendency to spoil. Sure you can have a couple products but you do not need a whole drawer of them, unless you are a big beauty guru and blogger who has to try every product. In this case you have a right to buy any highlighter you want.

My first and favorite highlighter is Mary-Lou Manizer by the Balm. It is a classic highlighter, maybe one of the first on the market. It has a good texture, not too shiny; you can pull a natural highlighted look with it. I guess almost every makeup artist has one of those or used to have. It is a classic one and one of the basic highlighters.

In case you prefer a liquid highlighter or want a more natural glowy look, you can use Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector. I own one in liquid form. They also have this product in powder, which is not bad as well. The shade I own is Opal, it is slightly bronzy color, can be too dark for fair skin tones (you can use Moonstone instead), looks very natural. Do not expect to get super strong shiny glow from it. It does not work this way. If you need stronger highlighter go for Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops.

And the last highlighter I have recently purchased is by Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow kit in the shade Sun Dipped. I was thinking a lot about purchasing this product. From the first look it is perfect for a makeup artist’s kit, but from the other hand I did not like the shade combinations they used to have, one was too light and yellow second one was too dark. So when they came out with a new shade Sun Dipped, I thought it would be perfect for any skin tone. I really like the shades in this pallet, they can be mixed and matched as well, plus they will suit any skin tone. In general it is a great product for a makeup artist who wants to have one good pallet at hand. Compering to Mary-Lou Manizer , the product is slightly more powdery and it gives stronger highlighted look, you do not need to dip your brush twice into the powder.

In conclusion I must say that I have not bought any drugstore highlighter. I found them too chalky. But I have not tried everything yet, so if you guys tried something good from a drugstore leave the information in the comments bellow. I guess drugstore makeup is also developing very rapidly, so they must come or must have already come out with new decent products. Let me know your thoughts about it, and of course I hope that information above will help some of you to choose a right highlighter if you have not found one yet.
